There are two medical schools in Mississippi, one offers the allopathic MD degree, and the other the osteopathic DO degree. The University of Mississippi Medical School is located in Jackson, Mississippi. It is the only provider of MD degrees in the state of Mississippi. They are besides the only school on the state which offers degrees in occupational therapy, dentistry and other medical related professional degrees. They not only offer the MD degree, but also a combined MD / PhD, and combined MD / OMS ( Oral Maxillofacial Surgery ). The MD / OMS degree is only offered by several schools in the country. Please note that entrance to this school has similar requirements to most other medical schools, however, they also require two semesters of math ( college algebra and trigonometry ) and two semesters of English composition and literature.
The other school in Mississippi is the William Carey School of Osteopathic Medicine. This school offers the DO degree. Founded very recently, 2008, it was the first in the area to offer a DO degree. They do not offer any combined degrees to obtain with the DO. They do offer a Masters of Biological Sciences for those looking to strengthen their application to medical schools.

It is a fairly warm state, both in the summer and the winter. During the hurricane season, there is some chance of damage if you live close to the shore.
